Robertson Baxter

Financial advice, transformed

Greg Robertson

Biography

As a young boy growing up in Bradford, Greg’s early ambition had been to be an architect. However, after dutifully agreeing to undertake a work experience placement set up by his father – a bank manager – Greg’s future direction was set.

Finding in his work experience placement that he loved the busy nature of the environment and the variety of the banking world, especially the client-facing aspects, Greg was offered a permanent job at Yorkshire Bank. Here, he rapidly became a rising star, qualifying as a Financial Advisor at just 19. Quickly establishing an ambition to advance his qualifications and to gain further responsibilities, Greg sought opportunities for promotion that saw him progress through the banking world, looking after increasingly higher-value clients with more complex portfolios, by now at HSBC.

Reaching a crossroads in his career, he sought advice from Mike Woodhead, then a client of Greg’s and an increasingly trusted friend. Should he move to London to join the cut and thrust of the investment elite, or stay in Yorkshire? Mike’s advice was to find a business partner and to set up as high-end independent financial adviser.

Having met Stephen earlier in his career, and realising he was perhaps the only person he would trust in such an endeavour, together they made the bold decision and Robertson Baxter was born. With Mike agreeing to be Chairman, the rest is history (or perhaps history in the making).

Today, Greg’s drive and ambition is undiminished and his reputation burgeoning. Alongside managing a thriving business, he’ll be found most mornings studying towards the Chartered Insurance Institute’s Chartered status before the working day begins.

But there’s a balance to be struck, too, with a young family to enjoy and a single figure golf handicap to protect. In reality, it’s this balance that ensures that Robertson Baxter is the success it is. Clients benefit from Greg’s drive, ambition, and his constant wish to learn and improve as well as his firmly embedded family values.
